It was incorporated in 1965 by bringing together the Middlesex Boroughs of Brentford & Chiswick and Heston & Isleworth and Urban District of Feltham.

Brentford has been popularly declared ‘Capital of Middlesex.’ In Britain’s democratic past when elections were held in one place in every county in the kingdom, Brentford was chosen as the centre for Middlesex polling and it was to here people trudged from all over the Capital County to cast their vote.
